A Summary of the WWDC25 Group Lab - Developer Tools
At WWDC25 we launched a new type of Lab event for the developer community - Group Labs. A Group Lab is a panel Q&A designed for a large audience of developers. Group Labs are a unique opportunity for the community to submit questions directly to a panel of Apple engineers and designers. Here are the highlights from the WWDC25 Group Lab for Developer Tools. Will my project codebase be used for training when I use Xcode's intelligent assistant powered by cloud-based models? When using ChatGPT without logging in, your data will not be used to improve any models. If you log in to a ChatGPT account, this is based on your ChatGPT account settings, which allows you to opt-out (it defaults to on). When using Xcode with accounts for other model providers, you should check with the policies of your provider. And finally, at no point will any portion of your codebase be used to train or improve any Apple models. We'd love to make our SwiftUI Previews (and soon, Playgrounds) as snappy as possible. Is there any way to skip certain build steps, such as running linters? It seems the build environment is exactly the same (compared to a debug build), but maybe there's a trick. Starting with Xcode 16, SwiftUI previews use the exact same build artifacts as the regular build. The new Playgrounds support in Xcode 26 uses these build artifacts too. Shell script build phases are the most common thing that introduces extra build time, so as a first step, try turning off all shell script build phases (like linters) to get an idea if that’s the issue. If those build phases add significant time to your build, consider moving some of those phases into asynchronous steps, such as running linters before committing instead of on every build. If you do need a shell script build phase to run during your build, make sure to explicitly define the input and output files, as that is a huge way to improve your build performance. Are we able to provide additional context for the models, like coding standards? Documentation for third party dependencies? Documentation on your own codebase that explains things like architecture and more? In general, Xcode will automatically search for the right context based on the question and the evolving answer, as the model can interact multiple times with your project as it develops an answer. This will automatically pick up the coding style of the code it sees, and can include files that contain architecture comments, etc. Beyond automatic context, you can manually attach other documents, even if they aren't in your project. For example, you could make a file with rules and ideas and attach it, and it will influence the response. We are very aware of other kinds of automatic context like rule files, etc, though Xcode does not support these at this time. Once ChatGPT is enabled for Coding Intelligence in Xcode 26, and I sign into my existing ChatGPT account, will the ChatGPT Coding Intelligence model in Xcode know about chat conversations on Xcode development done previously in the ChatGPT Mac app? Xcode does not use information from other conversations, and conversations started in Xcode are not accessible in the web UI or ChatGPT app. Is there a plan to make SwiftUI views easier to locate and understand in the view hierarchy like UIKit views? SwiftUI uses a declarative paradigm to define your user interface. That allows you to specify what you want, with the system translating that into an efficient representation at runtime. Unlike traditional AppKit and UIKit, seeing the runtime representation of SwiftUI views isn't sufficient in order to understand why it's not doing what you want. This year, we introduced a SwiftUI Instrument that shows why things are happening, like view re-rendering. Is it possible to use the AI chat with ChatGPT Enterprise? My company doesn't allow us to use the general ChatGPT, only the enterprise version they have setup that prevents data from being leaked Yes, Xcode 26 supports logging into any existing ChatGPT account, including enterprise accounts. If that does not meet your needs, you can also setup a local server that implements the popular chat completions REST API to talk to your enterprise account how you need. Now that Icon Composer is here, how does it complement or replace existing vector design tools such as Sketch for icon design? Icon Composer complements your existing vector design tools. You should continue to create your shapes, gradients, and layers in another tool like Sketch, and compose the exported SVG layers in Icon Composer. Once you bring your layers into Icon Composer, you can then use it to influence the translucency, blur, and specular highlights for your icon. What’s one feature or improvement in the new Xcode that you personally think developers will love, but might not immediately discover? Maybe something tucked away or quietly powerful that’s flown under the radar so far? One feature we're particularly excited about is the new power profiler for iOS, which gives you further insights into the energy consumption of your app beyond what was possible with the energy instrument previously. You can learn more about how to use this instrument and how it can help you greatly reduce your apps battery usage in the documentation, as well as the session Profile and optimize power usage in your app. There were also improvements in accessibility this year with Voice Control, where you can naturally speak your Swift code to Xcode, and it understands the Swift syntax as you speak. To see it in action, take a look at the demonstration in What’s new in Xcode 26. We have a software advisory council that is very sensitive to having our private information going to the cloud in any form. What information do you have to help me guide Xcode and Apple Intelligence through the acceptance process? One thing you can do is configure a proxy for your enterprise that implementing the popular Chat Completions API endpoint protocol. When using a model provider via URL, you can use your proxy endpoint to inspect the network traffic for anything that you do not want sent outside of your enterprise, and then forward the traffic through the proxy to your chosen model provider. Are there list of recommended LLMs to use with Xcode via Intelligence/Local? I've tried Gemma3-12B, but.. I hope there are better options? Apple doesn't have a published list of recommended local models. This is a fast-moving space, and so a recommendation would become out of date very quickly as new models are released. We encourage you to try out the local model support in Xcode 26 with models that you find meet your needs, and let us and the community know! (continued below)

Errors running with ASAN when targeting iOS Devices
I'm unable to run my app with ASAN enabled when targeting a physical iOS device. Simulator targets do work. Can't add capabilities in Xcode
We had push notifications and associated domains capabilities to our app but something happened either with my certificates or Xcode and they disappeared and can't add any capabilities anymore. https://imgur.com/peRXNO6 Our App ID, certificate and provisioning profile are all correct and contain the correct capabilities.

How can I resolve the xcode12.4 build error: Use of undeclared identifier '_CTYPE_A'?
I have a project that previously built for x86_64 that includes objective C, C and C++ files using Xcode 11.7. I am now trying to upgrade my project so that it will build for both arm64 and x86_64 using xcode 12.4. However, when I attempt to build, I receive many errors relating to missing "CTYPE"s as well as functions missing from the global namespace. /Applications/Xcode12.4.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/MacOSX.platform/Developer/SDKs/MacOSX11.1.sdk/usr/include/_wctype.h:53:24: Use of undeclared identifier '_CTYPE_A' /Applications/Xcode12.4.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/MacOSX.platform/Developer/SDKs/MacOSX11.1.sdk/usr/include/_wctype.h:53:33: Use of undeclared identifier '_CTYPE_D' /Applications/Xcode12.4.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/MacOSX.platform/Developer/SDKs/MacOSX11.1.sdk/usr/include/_wctype.h:71:10: Use of undeclared identifier '__istype' /Applications/Xcode12.4.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/MacOSX.platform/Developer/SDKs/MacOSX11.1.sdk/usr/include/_wctype.h:89:24: Use of undeclared identifier '_CTYPE_L' /Applications/Xcode12.4.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/MacOSX.platform/Developer/SDKs/MacOSX11.1.sdk/usr/include/_wctype.h:125:17: Use of undeclared identifier '__tolower'; did you mean 'towlower'? /Applications/Xcode12.4.app/Contents/Developer/Toolchains/XcodeDefault.xctoolchain/usr/include/c++/v1/cctype:103:9: No member named 'isalnum' in the global namespace; did you mean 'iswalnum'? /Applications/Xcode12.4.app/Contents/Developer/Toolchains/XcodeDefault.xctoolchain/usr/include/c++/v1/cctype:104:9: No member named 'isalpha' in the global namespace; did you mean 'iswalpha'? There are more errors than this present but this is the gist of what I am seeing. It should be noted that as far as I can tell I am not using any of the functions or definitions in my code and that these errors seem to be from functions and definitions deep in the SDK. Is there anything I should be looking for in particular to resolve these build errors? Do I need to change a project setting?

Login to azure devops account from xcode
How do I sign in to Azure devops accounts from xcode preferences. The account for Azure doesn't show up. The code is already hosted on Azure Devops and I was working on an already made project and the repo is already in the azure devops account. The previous account was obselete and now I need to login to my own account to push the changes. Whenever I am trying to push and commit the changes I get an error: remote: You are not authorized to access this collection. (-20)

Xcode 13 "Missing package product" using local Swift Packages
I have a project I've been working off of for a few years now that makes use of local Swift Packages. In my workspace, I have a "Kit" project that generates a framework using several local Swift Packages as dependencies. In Xcode 12, the local Swift packages resolve correctly and compiles, but each beta of Xcode 13 gives me the error: "[ProjectName].xcodeproj Missing package product '[LocalSwiftPackage]'" Clearing the package cache, derived data, or restarting the application does not resolve the issue. Only Swift Packages that are remotely loaded from a URL are compiled correctly. Using local packages to separate module code, while still being able to edit in the same project, has been essential to my workflow and would hate to see Xcode 13 release with these breaking changes, and I have not seen this issue listed in the known issues for the Xcode 13 release notes. Has anyone else experienced this issue or found a workaround?

Posting a Crash Report
If you need help investigating a crash, please include a crash report in your post. To smooth things along, follow these guidelines: For information on how to get a crash report, see Acquiring crash reports and diagnostic logs. Include the whole crash report as a text attachment (click the paperclip icon and then choose Add File). This avoids clogging up the timeline while also preserving the wealth of information in the crash report. If you’re not able to post your crash report as an attachment, see Can’t Post Crash Report as Attachment below. If you want to highlight a section of the report, include it in the main body of your post. Put the snippet in a code block so that it renders nicely. To create a code block, add a delimiter line containing triple backquotes before and after the block, or just click the Code Block button. If possible, post an Apple crash report. Third-party crash reporters are often missing critical information and have general reliability problems (for an explanation as to why, see Implementing Your Own Crash Reporter). Symbolicate your crash report before posting it. For information on how to do this, see Adding identifiable symbol names to a crash report. If you need to redact the crash report, do so consistently. Imagine you’re building the WaffleVarnish app whose bundle ID is com.example.wafflevarnish but you want to keep your new waffle varnishing technology secret. Replace WaffleVarnish with WwwwwwVvvvvvv and com.example.wafflevarnish with com.eeeeeee.wwwwwwvvvvvvv. This keeps the text in the crash report aligned while making it possible to distinguish the human-readible name of the app (WaffleVarnish) from the bundle ID (com.example.wafflevarnish). Finally, for information on how to use a crash report to debug your own problems, see Diagnosing issues using crash reports and device logs. Can’t Post Crash Report as Attachment Crash reports have two common extensions: .crash and .ips. If you have an .ips file, please post that [1]. DevForums lets you attach a .crash file but not an .ips file (r. 117468172). To work around this, change the extension to .txt. If DevForums complains that your crash report “contains sensitive language”, leave it out of your initial post and attach it to a reply. That often avoids this roadblock. If you still can’t post your crash report, upload it to a file sharing service and include the URL in your post. Post the URL in the clear, per tip 14 in Quinn’s Top Ten DevForums Tips. Share and Enjoy — Quinn “The Eskimo!” @ Developer Technical Support @ Apple let myEmail = "eskimo" + "1" + "@" + "apple.com" [1] Because it’s easy to go from an .ips file to a .crash file. I usually do this by choosing File > Quick Look in the Finder. For more info about these file formats, see this post. Revision History: 2024-11-21 Added a recommendation to post the .ips format if possible. 2024-05-21 Added some advice regarding the “contains sensitive language” message. 2023-10-25 Added the Can’t Post Crash Report as Attachment section. Made other minor editorial changes. 2021-08-26 First posted.

Performance difference between Xcode's "Build for Profiling" and xcodebuild for Release
For normal testing I build an application using Xcode and selecting "Build for Profiling" from the Product menu. For production I do "xcodebuild clean build -configuration Release ......." I notice a big performance difference. In my case the XCode profiling build runs in under a minute, the xcodebuild version takes over 4 minutes. The XCode profiling build uses the Release configuration, the xcodebuild is also using the Release configuration. What additional configuration options are being set/used when "Building for Profiling"? I'm having a hard time finding an answer to this question.

"Network Link Conditioner" in "Additional Tools for Xcode 13" can not be loaded on Big Sur 11.6 (20G165)
I've just downloaded "Additional Tools for Xcode 13" after today's release, and installed "Network Link Conditioner.prefPane" on my macOS Big Sur 11.6 (20G165). But it just don't work. Every time I try to open it an error appeared. Dose the tool only support macOS Monterey which Xcode 13.0 (13A233) dose not support? BTW, the workaround for me is using the tool in "Additional Tools for Xcode 12.5"...

Xcode 13 / iOS 15 takes longer than expected to launch app
I am using Xcode 13 on a Macbook Pro (Intel/2019) with macOS Big Sur 11.6 I am building and launching the app on a connecting iPhone X running iOS 15.0, I am also running a UI test suite based on XCUITest while I do that. The app takes extremely long to launch (2+ minutes), then it sits on the splash screen for another 2-3 minutes. Meanwhile, Xcode shows the alert attached: I have 2 questions: Is this a widespread Xcode 13 / iOS 15 issue? Can someone please explain what the message in the alert means "LLDB is likely reading from device memory to resolve symbols"? Is there anything I can do to reduce or avoid this wait?

Hi I am building a framework. In the past, if I create a framework project [myFrameworkName.framework] file was created in the 'Products' folder. But my xcode doesn't create 'Products' folder. It also doesn't create [myFrameworkName.framework]. Can I make [myFrameworkName.framework] file? I do not speak English well So I am using a translator. thanks.

NSLocationTemporaryUsageDescriptionDictionary crashes Xcode 13
I just submitted a feedback for this (FB9662125) but in the spirit of “share and enjoy”… The cool new Generate Info.plist File feature in Xcode 13 crashes if you try to put an NSLocationTemporaryUsageDescriptionDictionary in your Info.plist file. Here’s a simple repro scenario: Create a minimal iOS app (no Core Data, no tests) Go to target settings → Info tab → Custom iOS Target Properties Click the (+) button on any row to begin inserting a new row Select Privacy - Location Temporary Usage Description Dictionary Click somewhere else or press Return to commit the selection Xcode crashes immediately More generally, it seems that Xcode crashes any time it tries to regenerate your Info.plist file if it contains an NSLocationTemporaryUsageDescriptionDictionary, even if (for example) you manually pasted that dictionary into the file earlier. In that case, merely tapping the (+) button in step 3 above is enough to crash it.

Open app review crashlog .txt file in Xcode 13
Got emailed three .txt crash files. Cannot for the life of me figure out how to get Xcode to do something with them. Tried: renaming .txt to .crash Dropping onto "devices and simulators" window Dropping on to "devices and simulators > select device > View device logs" "Download debug symbols" for the archive in Xcode (says "dowloaded debug symbols" so did it) ... and many other things Xcode 13 simply refuses to respond to the drag-and-drop of the file no matter the file extension and no matter where in Xcode's various windows/tools I drop it. Has anyone done this with a crash .txt file from app review and Xcode 13?

Xcode SPM when switching between branches
I have this problem with Xcode and SPM where every time I open up my Xcode project or switch branches, Xcode would spend a lot of time resolving the dependencies. I don't remember that that was a thing with Cocoapods. Is there a way to prevent it from doing this? It slows down my machine and make it completely unusable for 5-15 mins so switch branches is always a pain. EDIT: I would like to add that I have the Package.resolved file ignored under Git.

Command CodeSign failed with a nonzero exit code
After Upgrading to Xcode 13 my Builds are failing with Command CodeSign failed with a nonzero exit code. My app is in version 3.4.4. While trying to build version 3.4.5 for Mac we have started to get this error: Command CodeSign failed with a nonzero exit code Have tried everything people have said in this and other forums: Clean build folder; Restart Xcode Add --deep to Other Code Signing Flags Revalidate all Certificates Manual and Auto Signing The unsigned executable works fine. I am Evan able to Sign it manually and distribute locally. For Store Submission we need this step to succeed. Will appreciate help from Apple Technical Support This started happening with Xcode 13.

Can't extract Xcode_12.5.1.xip file
I have tried several options so far to no avail: Unarchiver shuts down silently (after ~1.5hr of trying to unarchive). xip console tool fails after ~1.5hr with this error: xip: signing certificate was "Software Update" (validation not attempted) xip: error: The archive “Xcode_12.5.1.xip” failed to be moved to the final destination due to the error: The operation couldn’t be completed. No such file or directory. extracted .app is incomplete though weighs about 30GB unxip extracts for ~1.5hr (being stuck for ~40min on Expanding items from “Xcode_12.5.1.xip”: 99%) and then shuts down. extracted .app is incomplete with the size of ~1.9GB Are there any other options I can try to extract Xcode 12.5.1 xip archive? Would external drive be an issue (I have Xcode_12.5.1.xip on external drive)?

Full Disk Access, Run and Debug from Xcode?
I'm working on a macOS app that I want to give "Full Disk Access". When I run from Xcode, I get "permission denied" errors when reading a file in my home directory. What can I do so that I can run and debug from Xcode? I dragged the binary from the derived data folder to the System Preferences list for Full Disk Access, but that seems to do nothing.

Xcode 13.2 - Internal error : Missing Package Description Module
Hi guys, just updated Xcode to 13.2 via Mac App Store. I installed the additional components, and my project won't compile anymore : Xcode just tells me "Internal error: missingPackageDescriptionModule - Resolving Package Graph Failed" when attempting to build. None of the Swift packages used within my app seems to build, because "Package resolution errors must be fixed before building". Already attempted to clean derived data, reset Swift package caches and update package versions to no avail. Guess I'll try re-installing Xcode but... does anyone else have the same issue ? Using an M1 Mac and just updated to Monterey 12.1 if that's relevant. Thank you !
