Apple Carplay iOS 18 and Toyota

I made the mistake of downloading the new IOS for my Iphone 12 without thinking about the connection issues with Toyota CarPlay. Big mistake for me. Now I have a 1/2 connection to my new 2024 Corolla Cross Hybrid AND my 2023 RAV4 Prime (both wireless connections)

I can make a call, but can’t connect through CarPlay to an incoming call; I can send a text but but cannot hear / see when a text is received.

Our engineering teams need to investigate this issue, as resolution may involve changes to Apple's software. I'd greatly appreciate it if you could open a bug report and post the FB number here once you do. Bug Reporting: How and Why? has tips on creating your bug report.

Same issue with iOS18 with Toyota Highlander 2023 with Apple CarPlay we spent hours over that last two days running every process of elimination, we could think of and this morning we brought the Toyota Highlander to the Toyota dealership and they had no luck as well. Toyota dealership says IOS 18 has an issue with Toyota, Apple CarPlay.

We have a Chevy Traverse 2023 working perfectly fine with Apple CarPlay with iSO 18 but not with the 2023 Toyota Highlander.

We reset network settings and we reset all settings on a iPhone 14 running iOS 18 no luck

The Toyota connect app works perfectly fine for remote start, etc.

Configuration with Bluetooth fails, and with USB fails with iOS 18 with 2023 Toyota Highlander..

This issue needs to be escalated it must be affecting a lot of Toyota CarPlay customers.

and my skill levels is on an expert level and neither myself nor ToyotaTtechnicians could get this to config. Please escalate to top-tier Engineering Team.

Thanks.

Also, this issue is with Toyota Highlander 2023 with CarPlay and its on Verizon’s network in the Las Vegas area if that helps at all. The only thing we haven’t tried is a factory default, clean install of the iSO 18 operating system on iPhone 14. Which we may try later tonight. But otherwise there’s a glitch because it was working perfectly fine with the previous iSO 17 operating system.

Also have simulair problems with Toyota Yaris Cross 2024 model. System goes to mute and spotify only in my Iphone and not in car system.

I have a 2023 Toyota RAV4 Limited. I also have the iPhone 15 Pro Max with iOS 18 installed. All of my CarPlay functions work fine except for Google and Apple Maps do not communicate accurately and it makes it look like you’re driving through neighborhoods off the road. But that’s been an issue before iOS 18 and Toyota customer service confirm that

2024 37 miles on My brand new toyota rav4, the apple carplay cant send messages and glitches and siri starts replying to things ive not asked and opening random apps, apparently this is a “meshing issue” between apple and toyota according to our dealership

I own a 2020 Toyota CHR European model, which features Apple CarPlay when connected via USB. When I was using iOS 17, I had no issues with Apple CarPlay. However, since upgrading to iOS 18, I’ve been experiencing the following problems: Apple CarPlay freezes after short or long phone calls. When using navigation via cable through my phone, the screen flickers. Additionally, I’ve noticed that the system freezes after a phone call and takes a long time to return to navigation. This has become quite frustrating.

Initially, I thought the issue was with the cable, but I replaced it with a new one purchased directly from Apple. The problem is still there.

2020 Tacoma TRD OR owner here. Wish I had found this before I did the update. Wired CarPlay only in my model. No longer recognizes my phone when it is plugged in and I am relegated to Bluetooth only, which does not work with CarPlay for my vehicle. The fact that this thread has been live for at least 2-3 months with no solution is disheartening.

Same problem. stupidly installed 18.2 and my CarPlay in my Toyota Corolla is gone. worked fine the day before. yes, I tried the hints on macobserver dot com posted 3 days ago!

I have a 2020 Toyota Camry Hybrid. Same issues. Choppy display and the person I’m speaking to over CarPlay say my calls are choppy like the connection is going in and out.

I don't know if this is helpful at all, but since 18.1 on an old (2015) Corolla w/o CarPlay bluetooth audio playback has become pretty bad. Audio will play fine for a a few minutes an then get very choppy to the point that if I'm listening to a podcast I have to rewind a few times to get it to play through cleanly. I know bluetooth is not the primary connectivity for CarPlay, but is used for setup and control...

Just thought I'd add that. No idea if CarPlay glitches out if the BT connection is flapping about.

I was having the same issue with my Toyota Sienna - iPhone 16 Pro was not connecting with CarPlay.

The problem I found was due to a cheap USB cable (Type-A to Type-C) - this caused the CarPlay connection to flop, making it unusable. I swapped it for a higher quality cable (same Type-A to Type-C) and now the phone connects with CarPlay and stays connected. Its clear to me now that the quality of USB cable matters more with Type-C than it did with the older Lightning connector.

It also may help to ensure your Toyota audio and navigation firmware versions are current - see https://www.toyota.com/firmware-updates - You can check the version installed in your vehicle, under Menu (the faceplate button) > Setup > Software Update. The website also provides clear instructions how to download and perform the software update using a USB flash drive (a dealer can do this for you, but I was quoted over $200 at Toyota Service, I opted to learn and do it myself.)

My current configuration:

  • iPhone 16 Pro
  • iOS version 18.2.1
  • Toyota Sienna 2021 firmware: Audio: Model ID DCU 17TDT2NA-DA55, version 1162 Navigation: Model ID MEU 17TMT2NS-DA50, version 1150

Any updates regarding this issue? I have an iPhone 15 Pro Max and a 2020 Toyota CHR. Since installing the iOS 18 update, Apple CarPlay freezes every time I receive a phone call, making it unusable. I contacted Apple customer support, but of course, they say it’s Toyota’s responsibility. I also contacted Toyota customer support, and of course, they say it’s Apple’s responsibility...

Facing similar issues with a 2019 Corolla (wired carplay) and iphone 12 pro on ios 18.2.1

Everything seems to work fine up until I make or take a call, either on cell or via apps like zoom

Carplay worked fine for me until ios 18, ever since that update carplay is essentially useless, which is essential for my day to day

When can we expect a fix for this?
